'At first I had to learn how to use the puppetВ in the right way вЂ¦ I thought it was going to be easy, but I didn't realise how extremely hard itВ was. 'Puppets just fell in my lap really,' says Platenkamp. Platenkamp says teaching the Blenheim cast reminded her of her earlyВ days starting out in puppeteering. 'It's one thing to get actors to act, it's another thingВ to get puppets to do the same.' She got everyone working with puppets -В made from paper at first. 'It's been extremely helpful having her on board. 'You can read up about things, or watch a YouTube video about doing it,В but it's not the same as having people with experience. 'When the musical theatre decided to do the show, I thought, 'there's a challenge', toВ work with puppets,' Logan says. Indeed, when the Blenheim MusicalВ Theatre announced they were going to do Avenue Q, the production had no idea RoseВ was in the community. Logan says the opportunity to work with Platenkamp was 'serendipitous', since thereВ was no-one in Blenheim with her kind of puppet experience. 'I was volunteering at the ASB Theatre, and I saw that they were doing this show, and IВ thought,В 'That's great, because I would like to do something with puppetsВ again', and IВ really like this show.'
